Gggarth understands the value of learning by doing, as he was mentored by some of the best in the business. He started his career at the age of 15, working after school at Nimbus 9, his father’s Toronto Yorkville studio. His first big break came a year later with the opportunity to be second engineer on Bob Seger’s legendary Night Moves. (His dad, Jack Richardson is considered the grandfather of the Canadian Music Industry and has the Juno for Producer of the Year named after him).
During the early part of his career, Richardson moved to Los Angeles at the insistence of renowned producer Michael Wagner.
Richardson also learned on the road, providing live sound for a variety of bands before landing at Phase I Studio in Toronto. At Phase I, Gggarth learned the ropes of the recording industry while being mentored by some of the music industry greats, including Bob Ezrin, Brian Christian and Jack Richardson his legendary father who was himself responsible for The Guess Who among others.
In 2005, Richardson received a third Juno nomination in the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award category. The nomination was for his work with Canadian pop rockers Hedley. Richardson had won previously for his work with The Melvins and Jesus Lizard.
Richardson has worked with some of the most exciting bands in the music industry, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Alice Cooper, and White Lion. Richardson produced Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled epic debut album earning him a Grammy nomination and securing his place in the pantheon of great record producers. Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name of” earned number one spot for the UK’s Christmas single in December of 2009.
Richardson’s production roster includes some of the world’s most vibrant musical artists, many of whom record in his state-of-the-art studio.
