And The BC Winners Are…

Last night, 102.7 The PEAK and the Music BC Industry Association announced the winners of the 2015 BC PEAK Performance Project live at the historical Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. This marks the final year of the 7 year program that has invested over $5 million into the British Columbia music community.

This year’s winner and prizing are as follows:

1st place $102, 000 – Bed of Stars
2nd place $75, 000 – JP Maurice
3rd place   $50,000 – Van Damsel

The PEAK Performance Project was the brainchild of Music BC Executive Director Bob D’Eith, and funded by a generous Canadian Content Development commitment from the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group. Launched in 2009, the project has assisted in the development of over 120 BC artists with education, marketing, and of course, funding. The top 3 artists from every year have collectively taken home over 1.6 million dollars to spend on their development, with millions more being spent within the BC music industry.

The PEAK Performance Project will continue in Alberta thanks to 95.3 The PEAK in Calgary. The Alberta project will be announcing the winner at it’s finale this Saturday, November 21st at Flames Central, with performances by the top 3 artists Leeroy Stagger, The Royal Foundry, and Transit.

Also, now available for FREE download are the 12 songs from the Top 12 Alberta and BC artists. They were teamed up with the challenge of writing a song to record at boot camp using the theme “Hello, Goodbye”. All 12 songs were recorded in 5 pop-up studios built in a day at the RockRidge Canyon Bootcamp by the Nimbus School of Recording and Media and their amazing crew.

BC PPP Showcase #1 Recap feat. Joy District, Bed of Stars & Mindil Beach

Did you miss the fun Fortune Sound Club last Thursday? It’s the beginning of the end for the BC PEAK Performance Project. The first of the last showcases has begun and the countdown is on. See what our artists think was the best part of Boot Camp form a scant 3 weeks ago, who they’d let win in their place, and how they’d eventually ‘remove’ the winners from their place at the top when we interview Joy District, Bed of Stars and Mindil Beach

11866260_1028789410498742_3833952819909120770_nWhile both the BC and Alberta projects are run as separate programs in each province, there is an incredible opportunity to create bridges between BC and Alberta though the shared educational experience at the RockRidge Canyon Boot camp in Princeton, BC.

To top that off, Nimbus School of Recording and Media will be on site recording songs that have been co-written between the BC and Alberta Artists!

Starting August 27th, follow the Alberta and BC Artists experience though their eyes, published daily on:

“The relationships that have been built because of the PEAK Performance Project have created a unique sense of community amongst BC artists; and now BC and Alberta artists. The educational component has given over 100 bands the tools they need to be successful in a business sense, as well as to help them develop artistically. After 6 years of impressive talent, we can’t wait to see what year 7 has in store.“

– Bob D’Eith, Executive Director of Music BC.

“Great radio is built on great music. With The PEAK Performance Project let’s do all we can to make sure our Alberta musicians are given every resource and every opportunity to create that music. The artists in the ever-growing PEAK Performance community are building the soundtrack for our province. 95.3 The PEAK is so proud of the twelve artists of The PEAK Performance Alberta’s inaugural year and are excited to hear what 2015 will bring.”

– Kath Thompson, Program Director, 95.3 The PEAK ”
